The Iranian Revolution had its successes and failures. One of the greatest successes is the expansion of the middle class. The state’s health and education also helped in expanding the middle class. Iran has also achieved some economic success too. The Islamic Republic managed to pay its loans to America within two years of the 1979 revolution. The government used oil revenues to build highways, railways, factories, power plants, and airports. Iran established economic, trade and business relationships with non-Western powers such as China and Russia. The failures were that Iran’s modernization efforts produced groups which now seek to reform the regime. Iran’s economy may be facing its most serious challenge since the 1994 debt crisis of the Iran - Iraq war. The revolution was very interesting because of how Pahlavi wanted Iran to be like The United States in terms of the culture and way of living.
